Team Needs & Weakest SpotsMadden NFL 27 · every starting lineup ranked against the league

Every Madden NFL 27 roster has a hole somewhere. Maybe it is a quarterback who holds the offense back, a secondary that gets beaten deep, or an offensive line that cannot protect. Knowing where a team is weakest tells you who to draft, trade for or sign in Franchise, and which matchups to attack when you play against them.

Pick a team to see its projected starters grouped by position, each group ranked 1 to 32 against the rest of the league, with the three biggest needs up top. Or switch to League Rankings to see all 32 teams ranked at one position. Every rating comes straight from EA's published numbers.

Starters are each team's highest rated players at every lineup spot in EA's ratings, not the in-game depth chart. Position group ranks compare the average overall of those starters across all 32 teams. Roster Depth adds a fixed number of backups at every position so every team is measured the same way.

How Team Needs Works

For every team, the page builds a starting lineup from EA's ratings: a quarterback, running back, three receivers, a tight end, all five offensive line spots, two edge rushers, two defensive tackles, a MIKE and WILL linebacker, three cornerbacks, a free and strong safety, a kicker and a punter. Each spot is filled by the highest rated player on the roster listed at that position.

Those starters are grouped into position units, and each unit's average overall is ranked against the same unit on the other 31 teams. A rank of 1 is the best in the league and 32 is the worst. The three lowest ranked units, not counting kicker and punter, are shown as the team's biggest needs. Inside each unit, the weakest starter is highlighted so you can see exactly which spot drags it down.

How Roster Depth Works

Starters only tell half the story in Franchise, where injuries and fatigue put backups on the field. Roster Depth adds the next best players at every position: a backup quarterback, running back and tight end, the fourth and fifth receivers, two reserve offensive linemen, a third edge rusher, defensive tackle, linebacker and safety, and the fourth and fifth cornerbacks.

Every team gets the same number of backups at each spot, so a team is not rewarded or punished for how many players it happens to carry. Each position group shows two ranks: Starters, which ranks only the starting players, and Whole group, which ranks the starters and backups averaged together. The summary line shows all three averages, so a 91 overall starter with a 65 overall backup reads Starters avg 91.0, Backups avg 65.0, Whole group avg 78.0. The Thinnest Spots cards show the groups that fall the furthest when depth is counted, the positions that are one injury away from trouble.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the real depth chart?

No. EA's published ratings list each player's position but not his spot on the depth chart, so the page uses the highest rated player at each position. That is usually the starter, but injuries and coaching decisions in the game can differ.

Why are three cornerbacks and three receivers counted?

Most Madden games are played out of three receiver sets and nickel defense, so the third receiver and the nickel corner are on the field for the majority of snaps.

Does it update when EA releases a roster update?

Yes. The ratings are refreshed every night, so team needs change as soon as EA's roster updates move players up or down.
