In this Madden Strategies breakdown, we look at the Shoot Isolation Quick Passing Game. Shoot, also known as a flat route, is very effective against man and man press coverage. We can throw the pass too quickly to a receiver running the shoot route to beat the pass rush. Below, we show an example of how effective the shoot route can be.
We come out in the Gun Empty Trey Flex–Curls. Notice that the right slot receiver (Y) runs a shoot route towards the right flat. He is the receiver that we will look to throw.
The defense comes out in the Big Dime 2-3-6 Will – Cover 2 Man. For this example, the defense calls normal man coverage.
Madden Guides Strategies Tip: If the defense calls bump-n-run man coverage, we still would run this play the same way as we are about to show.
We take control of the right middle slot receiver and motion him towards the left.
Just as the right middle slot receiver gets close to the tight end, snap the ball.
The right middle slot receiver will break back towards the flat. The defender covering him should end up being a few steps behind.
Once we see this, we throw a hard bullet pass to the right middle slot receiver.
Once the catch is made, we head up the field to pick up positive yardage.
Madden Guides Strategies Tip: Depending on how much separation the receiver gets will determine if he can pick up any yardage after the catch. He may pick up no yards at all or may pick up an extra 5 yards.
Final Thoughts
The Shoot Isolation Quick Passing Game is an excellent way to attack any man coverage. If your opponent calls a man coverage defense, it allows you the opportunity to easily beat the blitz because of the quick passing game. Every playbook has this route, so it’s not an excuse to use this sound Madden Strategy.
