In this Madden 22 Offensive Tips and Plays video breakdown, we show how effective the Salem Passing Concept Vs Man coverage can be. Normally, the Salem Passing Concept is called to attack zone coverage because of the high low reads that are drawn up in the play. In this breakdown, the play we focus on is the Gun Stack Y Flex – Salem Pivot.

Default Pass Routes Assignments:
Position | Assignment |
SE | Corner |
SL | Pivot Inside |
TE | Pivot Outside |
FL | Deep Dig |
RB | Pass Block |
Quick Setup:
- Hot Route RB on Streak or Texas Route
- Motion Flanker Inside
Coaching Points:
- Watch for the split in once he breaks to the outside against Cover 1 Man coverage or Cover 2 Man coverage if he gets a step or two on the receiver.
- Look first to see if the split end is covered. Once you see If the split end is covered look for the flanker once he breaks towards the middle.
- If both two receivers are not open, look for the slot receiver who runs a pivot route to the inside or the tight end who runs a pivot route to the outside.
- Another option is to hot route the runningback on a Texas route. He now would be the 5th option to throw to.
- Rather than motioning the flanker to the inside, the running back could be motioned to the left side of the quarterback and hot routed on a Texas route. His pass route will be an option once he breaks towards the right side of the field. He may draw your opponent if he is playing manual pass coverage with a defender away from the flanker once he breaks to the inside.

Final Thoughts:
The Salem passing concept is not only effective against the Zone coverage but as you can see in this video breakdown that it is also effective against man coverage. Especially if it’s run from the Gun Stack Y Flex – Salem Pivot as there are several past routes you can look to throw to when running the Salem Passing Concept.
