Quick A-Gap Blitz: 3-4 Tite Saw Blitz Zero
Unleash the full power of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense with this lightning-fast pressure scheme designed to scream through the interior.
The 3-4 Tite Saw Blitz Zero is a high-risk, high-reward defensive scheme in Madden NFL 26 designed to overwhelm the interior offensive line. By manipulating alignment and using QB Contain logic, defenders force the center and guards into impossible blocking angles, allowing a linebacker to shoot the A-Gap untouched.
Introduction
It’s Kobra here at MaddenGuides.com, and for this video breakdown, I want to show you how to set up an A gap blitz using these setups from a defensive play out of the 3-4 Tite formation. The play we are breaking down today is the Saw Blitz Zero. This defense is a Cover Zero shell, meaning you are sending the house to get home.
As you look at your screen, you will see that this setup creates immediate pressure through the interior. In the current Madden NFL 26 meta, getting pressure without sending seven or eight guys is essential. This specific setup allows us to send six—or sometimes just five—and still force the quarterback to get rid of the ball instantly or take a sack.
To be quite honest with you, this is one of the more consistent ways to attack opponents who refuse to block their running back. We are going to dive into the Xs and Os of why this works, specifically looking at how the offensive line targets the nose tackle and the looping rushers.
Play Info
- Play Name: Saw Blitz Zero
- Formation: 3-4 Tite
- Play Type: Blitz / Man Coverage
- Base Personnel: 3 DL, 4 LB, 4 DB
Setup 1: Spread & Stack
The first blitz setup out of the 3-4 Tite Saw Blitz Zero is pretty simple to do, and you’re definitely going to get some A gap pressure on the quarterback with the weak inside linebacker.
Controller Adjustments:
- Spread Defensive Line: D-Pad Left, Left Stick Up.
- Show Blitz: Triangle/Y, Left Stick Left.
- QB Contain: R1/RB, R1/RB.
- Manually Move LB: Take the Weak Inside LB (Right of screen) and stack him directly behind the Right End (RE).
The main difference between not making any pre-snap adjustments and making these adjustments is you’re going to be able to bring that weak inside linebacker up a little bit closer to the line of scrimmage. Right there, if done correctly, he shoots through the gap because the Left Guard gets occupied by the Right End, and the Center is busy with the Nose Tackle.
I did want to point out to you that occasionally, the pressure might come from the Nose Tackle instead, depending on how the center slides his protection. Either way, one of those two defenders will come free.
Setup 2: Pinch & Hover
This second blitz setup is very similar regarding the pressure, but it gives your opponent a different look pre-snap. It compresses the line to muddy the reads for the offensive line.
Controller Adjustments:
- Pinch Defensive Line: D-Pad Left, Left Stick Down.
- Show Blitz: Triangle/Y, Left Stick Left.
- QB Contain: R1/RB, R1/RB.
- Hover LB: Bring the Weak Inside LB down into the A-Gap, very close to the line of scrimmage (be careful not to go offsides).
As you look at it, bringing him this close engages the targeting logic of the offensive line faster. Once the ball is snapped, he shoots straight through. This is an excellent change-up if your opponent starts sliding their line to the outside to stop the spread look.
Setup 3: Five-Man Pressure
If you want to play a bit safer coverage behind the blitz, we can convert this into a 5-man pressure scheme. We go back to the original setup but with a post-snap adjustment.
Execution:
- Execute Setup 1 (Spread DL, Show Blitz, QB Contain, Stack LB).
- User Control: Take control of the blitzer assigned to the Running Back or the Safety.
- Post-Snap Read: Watch the containment rusher on the edge. If the A-Gap blitzer comes free, manually drop the edge rusher into a hard flat or hook zone.
You have to make sure the blitzer gets through the line of scrimmage before you drop that guy back. This allows you to have coverage in the flats while still screaming at the QB through the middle.

Five Tips for Success
- Watch the RB Block: If the opponent blocks the Running Back, the A-Gap might get picked up. Be ready to user-rush or drop into coverage if the lane closes.
- Mix Up Coverages: Since this is a Man Coverage shell, smart opponents will run drags and slants. Manually shade your coverage inside (Triangle/Y, Right Stick Left) to take away quick reads.
- Hovering is Key: When using Setup 2, your user position matters. By hovering over the center, you occupy his attention for a split second, which frees up the blitzer.
- Don’t Be Predictable: Do not run this play every down. Mix it with Cover 3 or Cover 4 from the same 3-4 Tite look to confuse the QB.
- Use Press Coverage Cautiously: Pressing can disrupt timing, but if your corners are slower than the receivers, you will give up a touchdown. Know your personnel before pressing Y/Triangle + Down.
Recommended Player Skills
- Weak Inside Linebacker – Speed (SPD) & Acceleration (ACC): This is your primary blitzer. He needs high acceleration to burst through the gap before the center can recover.
- Cornerbacks – Man Coverage (MCV): Since this is a Cover 0 blitz, your corners are on an island. High Man Coverage stats are non-negotiable here.
- Edge Rushers – Power Moves (PMV): While they are containing, if the QB rolls out, you need them to shed blocks quickly. Power moves are generally more effective for setting the edge.
- Safety – Zone Coverage (ZCV): If you run the 5-man variation, your user safety needs good zone awareness to bait throws into the shallow middle.
Five Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: Can I run this against 5-wide sets?
- A: Yes, but it is risky. Spread formations force your defenders to spread out, which opens up quick passing lanes. Use the 5-man pressure setup against 5-wide to keep an extra body in coverage.
- Q: What if the QB rolls out immediately?
- A: That is why we use QB Contain. The edge rushers will loop outside to keep him in the pocket. If he rolls right, click the Right Stick (R3) to send the nearest spy or container after him.
- Q: How do I stop quick slants with this blitz?
- A: Shade your coverage “Underneath” (Triangle/Y, Right Stick Down) or “Inside” (Triangle/Y, Right Stick Left). This puts your corners in a position to jump the quick slant route.
- Q: Why isn’t the blitz coming in?
- A: Ensure you are stacking the linebacker correctly behind the Right End. If he is too far wide, the tackle will pick him up. If he is too far inside, the center will grab him.
- Q: Is this play viable in Ultimate Team?
- A: Absolutely. In fact, with the high-speed linebackers available in Ultimate Team, this blitz becomes even more deadly because they can close the distance to the QB faster than standard roster players.
Final Thoughts
The 3-4 Tite Saw Blitz Zero is a staple for any defensive scheme in Madden NFL 26. It provides reliable A-Gap pressure that forces your opponent to block extra players, limiting their route combinations. By mastering the setup and understanding when to use the 5-man vs. 6-man pressure, you can dictate the tempo of the game. Apply that pressure consistently, and you will force turnovers.
