In this Madden Guides post, we look at a defensive formation called Nickel Normal. The Nickel Normal is a balanced defensive formation that defends both the run and pass when the offense comes out in three receiver formations. It replaces a linebacker with an extra defensive back to add better pass coverage. There are few good defenses from Nickel Normal that bring pressure on the quarterback. The main weakness of the Nickel Normal is against strong power running formations as since an extra defensive back replaces a linebacker.
