Coaching Points:

  1.  The first Nickel 1-5-5 DBL A Gap – Mid Blitz setup brings A Gap pressure and is the easiest one to set up. It brings A Gap pressure from one of the inside linebackers consistently. For those that play in simulation leagues, this setup won’t get you guy flagged from the league commissioner.
  2. The second Nickel 1-5-5 DBL A Gap – Mid Blitz setup brings Double Edge Pressure from the outside linebackers Much like the first setup, very easy to set up and won’t get you in trouble with the league commissioner.
  3. The third and final Nickel 1-5-5 DBL A Gap – Mid Blitz setup is the hardest as it requires more time to set up. However, much like the first two, it just requires moving one or two defenders. The significant thing about this setup is its just a 3 Man Pass Rush. It provides better pass coverage as 5 defenders are in man coverage and 3 defenders in zone coverage.

Madden Guides Tip: If the right outside linebacker keeps getting double teamed, you may need to just hot route two linebackers into zone coverage. Have the third pass rush the quarterback. Rather than 3 man pass rush, there is now is a four man pass rush.

Final Thoughts:

Each of the Nickel 1-5-5 DBL A Gap – Mid Blitz setups bring inside or outside pressure. Each one requires just moving one defender or two defenders depending on what you decide to do. The third setup is the best because of the 3 man pass rush, plus the ablity to put 3 defenders into any type of zone coverage.
