For this Madden Tips breakdown video breakdown, we look at Manual Pass Rush Vs TE Block. There has been a recent trend in Madden Online games where players are hot routing their tight end to pass block. They then hot route the runningback on a pass route. While this is a sound offensive strategy, it plays into our hands. for those of us who like to manually pass rush a defensive end or a linebacker.
The defensive formation that we call for this breakdown is the Nickel 2-4-5 – Cover 4 Palms. In the image above we have hot routed the weak-side defensive tackle into QB Spy and called QB Contain. Finally, we hot route the left outside linebacker, which is actually a defensive end, into a hard flat.
The tight end has been hot routed to stay in to pass block. The runningback has been hot routed to run a wheel route.
After the offense snaps the ball, we speed rush the left outside linebacker so that he can get around the tight end who cannot pass block him.
Once around the tight end, we go straight after the quarterback.
The weak-side defensive tackle is spying the quarterback.
The right outside linebacker who is playing QB Contain will help prevent the quarterback from taking off and running.
The pass coverage is solid against this play. There are no receivers that are open for the quarterback to throw to.
Final Thoughts:
In conclusion, the manual pass-rush works just as effective if not more effective if the tight end stays in the past walk.
