Ja’Marr Chase Player Ratings Breakdown: Madden NFL 27

The Cincinnati Bengals’ 99 overall Deep Threat in Madden NFL 27, and the receiver every Bengals user builds the passing game around.

Verdict: Ja’Marr Chase is worth building an entire offense around in Madden NFL 27 because a 99 Release, 98 Deep Route Running and 96 Speed mean he wins the first two steps against press and the last twenty yards against a single-high safety. The Double Me X-Factor turns 50/50 balls into 70/30 balls once he enters the zone.

  • ►Position: WR, Cincinnati Bengals, #1

Introduction

It’s Kobra here, and the Ja’Marr Chase Player Ratings in Madden NFL 27 are the reason the Bengals passing game works the way it does. Six players sit at 99 overall this year. Two of them are wide receivers, and Chase is the one built for the boundary.

What separates him from the other 279 receivers in the game is not the overall. It is where the numbers land. A 99 Release paired with 98 Deep Route Running means the two hardest things a corner has to do against him, jam him at the line and stay in phase downfield, are the two things he is best at. Add 96 Speed and 98 Jumping and there is no coverage that solves him on its own.

This breakdown goes through every attribute that matters, what the Double Me X-Factor changes once it lights up, and the specific routes and formations that turn a 99 rating into points. If you want the wider picture on how his numbers fit the roster, the full Madden ratings hub covers the rest of the Bengals.

X-Factor & Superstar Abilities

Ja’Marr Chase Player Ratings — X-Factor and Superstar abilities

See how EA did that. Double Me is the X-Factor, and it is the one that changes what a defense can call. Once Chase enters the zone, aggressive catches against single coverage succeed far more often, which means a corner in press man with no safety help is not covering him, he is watching him. The zone activates with catches on plays that pick up ten-plus yards, so a couple of early Dig routes are all it takes to switch it on.

The four Superstar abilities stack underneath it. Mid In Elite and Mid Out Elite cover the 10-to-20-yard window on both sides of the numbers, which is exactly where the Dig, the Out and the Comeback live. Acrobat gives him tipped balls, so a pass that gets a hand on it still has a chance. Runoff Elite is the quiet one: on run-off routes he holds a defender’s attention longer, which opens space for the receiver underneath him. He is a decoy that still gets targets.

Scouting Ja’Marr Chase in Madden NFL 27

Ja’Marr Chase Player Ratings — strengths and weaknesses at a glance

Start with the 99 Release, because everything else follows from it. Release is the rating that decides whether a receiver gets off the line clean against press, and at 99 he does it every snap. A corner who tries to jam him loses the rep before the ball is snapped. That is why the Bengals can leave him isolated on the boundary and still throw his way.

Downfield, 98 Deep Route Running and 96 Speed work together. Deep Route Running controls how sharp the break is on a Post or a Corner past fifteen yards, and Speed controls whether the safety can close. Chase gets both, so a Post against a single-high look is a clean window rather than a contested one. The 98 Jumping and 97 Spectacular Catch clean up the throws that are late or high.

Where does he get beat? Strength, at 73. A physical corner who can get hands on him after the release, not at it, can knock him off his stem, and a safety who arrives with the ball can separate him from it. The 71 Carrying and 71 Trucking say the same thing after the catch: he makes people miss with a 96 Change Of Direction and 90 Juke, but he does not run through them.

The 99 Awareness is the number people skip past, and it is the one that makes him consistent. Awareness controls how fast a receiver reads the coverage and adjusts his route, so against a disguised look he settles into the right spot instead of running into a defender. It is the difference between a 99 that plays like a 99 and one that only shows up on Go routes.

Getting the Most Out of Chase’s Ratings

Okay this part is key. Chase is not a receiver you feed on every down. He is a receiver you position, then feed on the downs where the coverage has to choose.

  • ►Boundary X in Gun Trips TE. Put Chase alone on the short side with three receivers opposite. Most defenses roll the safety to the trips, which leaves him one-on-one, and a Streak or a Post there is the highest-percentage deep throw in the Bengals book.
  • ►Hot route to a Dig against Cover 3. The 97 Medium Route Running plus Mid In Elite make the 12-to-15-yard Dig his best route against zone. Against a three-deep look the hook defenders drop and the Dig sits behind the linebackers in front of the safety.
  • ►Red zone: Fade from Gun Bunch. Inside the ten, the 98 Jumping and Double Me do the work. Line him up as the point of the Bunch, run the Fade, and throw it high to the back pylon before the safety can get over.
  • ►Third-and-medium: Comeback to the sideline. With 99 Release and Mid Out Elite, a Comeback at 12 yards against off coverage is nearly automatic. The corner has to respect the Go, so he is backpedaling when Chase snaps it off.
  • ►Two-minute: Streak as the alert. Every play in a hurry-up drive gets Chase on a Streak whether you throw it or not. The safety has to shade him, which widens the middle for the Tight End and the slot.
  • ►Motion him across the formation before the snap. If the corner travels with him, it is man. If the corner stays, it is zone. That read decides whether you throw the Slant or the Dig, and Chase wins both.

The playbook breakdowns cover which Gun sets in the Bengals book carry each of these routes.

Against Man Coverage in Madden NFL 27

Man coverage is where the 99 Release pays for itself. The corner has one job, stay attached, and Chase makes it impossible in the first two steps.

  • ►Slant. Against press man, the 99 Release wins the inside position on the first step and the corner is trailing. Throw it as soon as he clears the defender’s hip and let the 96 Change Of Direction turn a five-yard catch into fifteen.
  • ►Go / Streak. The obvious one, and still the best. A corner in man with no help over the top has to run with 96 Speed, and the 98 Jumping settles any ball that hangs. Once Double Me is active this is a 50/50 ball he wins most of the time.
  • ►Sluggo (Slant-and-Go). After a couple of Slants, the corner starts jumping the inside break. That is when the double move hits, and 98 Deep Route Running makes the second cut sharp enough that the corner cannot recover.
  • ►Out. Mid Out Elite covers the 10-to-20-yard sideline window. Against a corner shaded inside in man, the Out breaks away from him and the throw is toward the boundary where only Chase can get it.
  • ►Contested catch in the end zone. The one place a corner can compete is the back-shoulder throw, where Strength matters. Skip the back-shoulder against physical corners and throw the Fade high instead, where 98 Jumping and Acrobat decide it.

Against Zone Coverage

Zone takes the release out of the equation, so this is where the 99 Awareness and 97 Medium Route Running carry the load. He finds the hole and sits, or he splits two defenders before either can get depth.

  • ►Dig against Cover 3. The hook defenders drop to the curl-flat, the middle linebacker sinks, and the Dig at 12 to 15 yards sits in the void between them and the single safety. Mid In Elite makes the catch in that traffic consistent.
  • ►Corner against Cover 2. Two deep safeties leave the sideline hole between the corner (who sinks to the flat) and the safety (who has half the field). A Corner route at 15 yards from the slot splits them, and the 96 Speed gets there before the safety.
  • ►Post against Cover 4. Quarters puts each safety on a quarter of the deep field. Chase on a Post with a Dig underneath him from the slot forces one safety to choose, and whichever he picks, the other route is open. This is the Mills concept and he is the ideal Post runner for it.
  • ►Curl at the sticks. On third down against any zone, a 10-yard Curl lets the 99 Awareness do the work. He turns and sits at the first-down marker in front of the hook defender, and the throw is on time because the route is.
  • ►Deep Crosser against Cover 6. Split-field coverage means one side plays Cover 2 and the other Cover 4. A 20-yard Crosser from the quarters side into the Cover 2 side runs away from the deep safety and into the sideline hole, and Runoff Elite keeps the trailing defender occupied.

Playing Online

This is where it gets interesting. Human defenders do not sit in one coverage. They user the safety, they shade Chase pre-snap, and they bracket him on third down. Against the AI in Madden NFL 27, he is open on every snap; against a person, you have to make him open. The good news is his ratings do that for you. A user-controlled safety cannot cover a 96-Speed Post and a Dig underneath at the same time, so the Mills concept out of Gun Trips is your answer to brackets. Force the user to pick, then throw the other one.

When you are defending him, the thing to know is that his 73 Strength is real. A physical corner with high Press, and a usered safety who arrives with the ball, is the only combination that slows him down. Do not try to press him and leave the safety in the middle of the field, because the 99 Release plus 96 Speed is a touchdown waiting to happen. Bracket him, take away the Dig with a hook defender, and make the Bengals throw somewhere else. The Madden tips archive has the coverage shells that hold up against Deep Threats online.

Franchise & Development in Madden NFL 27

Ja’Marr Chase Player Ratings — where he sits among every WR in the game

In Franchise, Chase is the second-highest-rated receiver in the game out of 280 at the position, and at 26 with five years in, he is at the front of his prime. That makes him nearly untouchable in a trade, because any deal for him costs multiple first-round picks and the AI knows it. If you are running the Bengals, he is a keep. If you are trying to acquire him, the realistic path is a contract-year run where his salary demand pushes the Bengals’ cap, and even then expect to give up your best young player plus picks.

Development is simple because there is only one number to fix. Put every upgrade into Strength first, because 73 is the sole attribute a defense can plan around, and a jump to the low 80s takes away the physical-corner counter. After that, Catch In Traffic from 94 to 97 turns the contested throws that Double Me does not cover into completions. Leave the 99s and 98s alone; there is nothing left to gain there.

Ja’Marr Chase Madden Ratings FAQ

WHAT IS JA’MARR CHASE’S OVERALL RATING IN MADDEN NFL 27?

Ja’Marr Chase is a 99 overall in Madden NFL 27, one of six players in the 99 Club and one of two wide receivers alongside Jaxon Smith-Njigba. His archetype is Deep Threat.

WHAT IS JA’MARR CHASE’S X-FACTOR ABILITY?

His X-Factor is Double Me. Once he enters the zone, his success rate on aggressive catches against single coverage increases, which makes a corner in press man without safety help a mismatch.

WHAT ARE JA’MARR CHASE’S BEST ATTRIBUTES?

His best attributes are 99 Release, 99 Awareness, 98 Deep Route Running, 98 Jumping, 98 Catching and 98 BC Vision. Speed is 96 and Acceleration is 95.

WHAT IS JA’MARR CHASE’S WEAKNESS IN MADDEN NFL 27?

Strength, at 73, is the one attribute a defense can attack. Physical corners can knock him off his route after the release, and a safety arriving with the ball can separate him from it. His Carrying and Trucking are both 71, so he does not run through tacklers after the catch.

WHAT IS THE BEST ROUTE FOR JA’MARR CHASE?

Against man coverage, the Slant and the Go route, because 99 Release wins the first step. Against zone, the Dig at 12 to 15 yards, because 97 Medium Route Running and the Mid In Elite ability make the catch in the middle of the field consistent.

Final Thoughts

In Madden NFL 27, Chase is a 99 that plays like a 99, and the reason is where the numbers sit rather than how high they go. Elite release and deep speed with average strength means he wins outside and downfield, not in traffic, and every route in this breakdown is built on that read. Get him isolated, throw the Dig against zone and the Go against man, and let Double Me handle the rest. The Madden strategies section covers how to build the rest of the Bengals offense around him.

MaddenGuides.com has been breaking down player ratings like this since 2001, and I wrote the official EA Sports Madden strategy guides for a reason: the numbers only matter when you know which snap they decide. Grab Madden NFL 27, load the Bengals, and put Chase on the boundary. For his real-world numbers, ESPN and NFL.com track the season that these ratings are built from.
