In this Madden Tips breakdown, we look at the How to Double Team a Specific Defender feature that now is available in 20. This defensive feature is much needed as it helps slow down defenders with such as Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt.

The offensive we use for this breakdown is the Gun Doubles Offset – Texas Double Post.

The defensive play in this breakdown is the Nickel Normal – .

We have highlighted J.J. Watt as he is the defender we want to double team.

The two offensive linemen we want to double him are the right guard and right tackle.

To get the double team to work, we press the RB (R1) and then press the right stick down to select the Double Team option.

This brings up a red icon with the letter D. We flick the left stick left or right to select the defender we want to double team. Here we flick the left stick twice to select J.J. Watt.

Once the ball is snapped, the right guard and right tackle double team J. J. Watt.

With him now doubled up, it allows us time to survey the field and look for the open receiver.

In the image above, we find the runningback open on his angle route as he breaks towards the middle of the field.

The runningback makes the catch and heads up the field for extra yardage.
