In this Madden Plays breakdown, we look at the Gun Stack Y Off Wk – Levels. This passing is designed to attack because of the hi-low read between the split end and the slot receiver. However, it is also effective against bump-n-run .

Default Pass Routes Assignments:

Position Assignment
SE Deep In (Inside Release)
SL Inside Pivot
TE Seam with Option to Run a Post
FL Fade
RB Delay Swing

Quick Setup:

  1. Hot route the TE on a streak route
  2. Hot route RB the on a wheel route (optional)

Coaching Points:

  • The split end is not jammed at the line of scrimmage if bump-n-run coverage is called.
  • The slot receiver is open once he breaks over the short middle of the field.
  • Look for the runningback once he breaks up the field on his wheel route.
  • The reason we hot route the runningback on a wheel route is clear his man out so that the slot receiver is open once comes over the short middle.
  • The reason we hot route the on a steak is to make sure he clears out the strong safety so that the split end is open on his deep in route.
  • This play takes some time to develop. May always have enough time to wait for the split end break towards the inside. If this is the case, look to throw to the runningback.

Final Thoughts:

The Gun Stack Y Off Wk – Levels as we already pointed out in the breakdown, it is designed to attack coverage. It also is an effective bump-n-run man beater because the split end gets off the line of scrimmage without being jammed at the line of scrimmage. Not only is the split end open, so is the slot and runningback.
