For this Madden Tips breakdown, we show how Defending I-Form Pro – Quick Slants can easily it is to achieve. In this video breakdown, we show two different defenses we like to call that defend the I-Form Pro Quick Slants. One is a zone defense, while the other is a man’s defense.
Defending I-Form Pro – Quick Slants With A Zone Defense
In the image above, the offense comes out in the I-Form Pro – Quick Slants. Notice that there are two receivers that run slants routes. The split end, who runs a slant route from the right side of the field and then the flanker who runs a slant right slant route from the left side of the field.
The defense that we’re going to show first is the 4-3 Normal – Tampa 2. This defense has three defenders that drop back into hook zones.
Without having to make any pre-snap adjustments on the defensive side of the ball the right outside linebacker will drop back in a hook zone towards the left side of the field taking away the slant route that is run by the flanker.
In the image above you can see that the right outside linebacker is now in position to defend the slant route that is being run by the flanker.
The right outside linebacker picks the pass off.
Defending I-Form Pro – Quick Slants With A Man Defense
The second defense that we want to show for this breakdown is the 4-3 Normal – Cover 2 Man. This defense features 5 defenders in man coverage.
The only pre-snap adjustment that we need to make is to hot route the right end into a hook zone.
This will put the right end into position to defend the flankers slant route.
However, that is not always the case because the right end will switch. He will cover the running back in man coverage. The right outside linebacker now drops back in a hook zone. In the play art, it shows that the right outside linebacker in man coverage, while the right end drops into a hook zone.
In the image above you can see that the right end is now in man coverage on the running back who is running a swing route to the right while the right outside linebacker is now in a hook zone. He is dropping back to defend the slant route that is ran by the flanker.
