In this Madden Tips breakdown, we want to show how we like to counter the RPO Read in Madden 20.
A few weeks ago, we showed how to run the RPO Read that allowed the slot receiver to get open against man coverage. For this breakdown, we use the same play called Gun Spread Y Slot Wk – RPO Read Bubble. The defensive play we use is Big Dime 2-3-6 Cover 2 Hard Flat.

Notice the slot receiver runs the bubble route and is the receiver we throw the ball to.
The spit end is sent in motion to the right.
If you see the split end being sent in motion, immediately hit the LB or L1 button. This brings up the Guess Play screen. Press up on the RS stick to guess pass.
The defender covering the slot won’t come inside to defend the run. Instead, he will cover the hard flat.
In the image above, the cornerback is playing the flat.
He is now in a position to either make the tackle or pick the pass off.
In this case, he picks the pass off and heads the other direction.

Final Thoughts
A simple counter to use against RPO Read plays where the slot is running a bubble route. We suggest using it if your opponent starts to abuse it by sending a receiver in motion.
